Education Programs

The Sunshine Coast offers a variety of courses and programs. Information about our three main high schools is found on this page.

In addition to the provincial curriculum, we offer courses in Community Television, Yearbook, Leadership, Outdoor Education and many others. Youth Train in Trades (Automotive, Professional Cook & Carpentry) programs are offered allowing students to begin their trades training and get work experience.

Elphinstone Secondary

Elphinstone Secondary is located in upper Gibsons, walking distance to cultural and sports venues, shopping and the business district. Elphinstone Secondary is a grade 8 to 12 secondary school and enrolls 545 students.  Elphinstone Secondary has a proud history of successful sports teams, but also offers non-athletic programs to its students. Courses include Community TV – with students learning skills that are put to use in community productions, and a culinary arts program – students who are successful can earn their first year apprenticeships. Sports programs include Volleyball and the Complex Athlete courses.

Elphinstone Secondary Website

Chatelech Secondary

Chatelech Secondary is a grade 8 to 12 secondary school and enrolls 475 students. It is located on the hill behind the Village of Sechelt, and in addition to academics, the school is known for its theatre and art programs and for the multi-cultural/diverse student population. Sechelt is home to the shíshálh Nation, and Indigenous students are a strong part of the school culture and population. The school is also known for its strong outdoor adventure program.

Aside from the academic offerings, the school supports many community based activities including study support, a breakfast program and a “High Five” leadership training program. There are many fun extra curricular activities balancing the arts and athletics.

Pender Harbour Secondary

Pender Harbour Secondary School is located in Pender Harbour and enrolls just under 100 students from grade 7 to 12. Teachers teach in a multitude of disciplines with blended learning opportunities. There is a strong focus on using technology and on the environment. Indigenous perspectives are recognized and students can participate in a carving program.

Pender Harbour is a unique community. There is no public transit in Pender Harbour, so this school suits international students who are more independent, can benefit from the extra study time, and who value the deeper relationships and more personal tone of the community. Pender Harbour Secondary School students will tell you that the school feels like one big family!

Pender Harbour Aquatic Centre is located within the school. Students can take advantage of the full size pool and complete programs such as their Bronze Medallion.
